You would think that when John D. Slay was found, events would have turned out better. He was dehydrated and with stomach pain. The good samaritan who found him gave him water, set up a tent for him to stay out of the rain while the samaritan went to look for help.

Help was sent in the form of helicopter. But John D. Slay could not be seen from above.

They then picked up the good samaritan to help them locate John Slay. A group of people had actually found him by that time and stopped to help him. They could do little except wait until rescuers arrived.

But it was too late. Slay stopped breathing and CPR was futile.

One can only wonder if an SOS Flag had been unfolded and displayed on the ground, would the helicopter been able to spot him when they first did their search? SOS flags are brightly colored, can easily be spotted from above and can be carried in a backpack.

We highly recommend that all hikers carry at least one SOS Flag when venturing out onto the trails.

Assemblyman Mike Davis, named 2011 Legislative Man of The Year by the Women’s Political Caucus of California, and Kevin Harbour, prominent Los Angeles Business Leader, know something about SOS Flag: It’s a great idea that is long overdue.

Mike Davis is a California Assembly Member and if there’s one thing Mike Davis knows first hand, it’s the need to be prepared in case of emergency.

Earthquakes, floods and fires are all part of living in the great state of California. One piece of emergency equipment that Mike knows could be the difference between getting help or being overlooked in life and death situations is the SOS Flag.

Unlike other pieces of communication equipment, the SOS Flag requires no batteries, electrical source, gasoline or propane to work correctly. The larger size flags are easily visible from above. Since the flags fold down to a convenient size, they are lightweight and easily portable .

If you are stranded, in the midst of a fire or amid dangerous surroundings following an earthquake and need to change locations your flag is easily taken with you. Once you reach a safer area, the flag can be unfolded allowing first responders and passersby to see that you are in need of assistance.

Both Mike Davis and Kevin Harbour believe in the SOS Flag because they recognize that you need to let first responders and good samaritans know two things: where you are and that you need help.

What could be simpler than a bright colored flag that states clearly: S O S.

October 2008, Los Angeles, California and the Los Angeles Safety Preparedness Fair is currently under way. And guess what company was a featured sponsor and highlight of the fair? SOS Flag.

SOS flags should be part of any emergency kit and plan. The SOS Flag is essential for residential, city and state emergency preparedness.

Why? Our flags are easily visible, fold to a very small size for carrying and storing, come in convenient sizes for auto, home, and buildings. They are inexpensive, require no batteries, electrical or fuel source to work. And they carry the internationally recognized symbol for distress: SOS.

It’s no wonder that the second most populous city in the United States prominently displayed and honored the SOS Flag at it’s emergency preparedness fair.

Looking back at this momentous event reminds us all that being prepared is always current.

The Big Rumble in San Francisco was a big success, in no small part to the leadership of Mayor Gavin Newsom. The Big Rumble is all about being prepared in the case of emergency.

Amongst the sponsors was, of course, SOS Flag, Inc. Edward Renteria set up four booths throughout the city and passed out hundreds and hundreds of flags to an eager public as news crews filmed and spoke to SOS Flag volunteers concerning this unique and vitally important flag.

Mayor Newsom personally thanked SOS Flag, Inc. for being a principal sponsor of the Big Rumble. Together, they demonstrated the SOS Flag to the public as photos and video was taken of the meeting.

At SOS Flag, Inc., we’d like to thank Mayor Newsom for his concern for public safety and his leadership in getting all the people, agencies and sponsors together to make The Big Rumble, 2009, a success!

Here she is with Edward Renteria, of SOS Flag, Inc., holding up an SOS flag.

It’s amazing how well organized The Big Rumble has been so far and how gracious Babe has been with all the guests in attendance.

You can tell she really cares about people.

There’s something fascinating and horrifying about emergencies. Particularly devastating are earthquakes. In 1989, there was an earthquake that shook the San Francisco Bay area in a way that hadn’t been experienced since 1906.

It was, in fact, the strongest California earthquake since 1952.

Are we prepared?

That’s why the Big Rumble is such a big deal. It’s helping bring awareness to both the public at large and agencies charged with their welfare in case of disaster.

It’s no wonder that SOS Flag, Inc. had to be there. Making both presentations to emergency response agencies and the general public through awareness booths, SOS Flag is making a difference in preparing the public and government in case of another earthquake.

There’s no simpler or easier solution to let others know you need help than an SOS Flag. By simply unfolding it, putting it up to a window or laying it on the ground you can quickly alert others, rescue teams on the ground and in the air, that you need help.

That’s why the Big Rumble is a big deal. It’s alerting the public on how to stay safe and get the help they need when disaster strikes.

Be prepared. Have an SOS Flag in your home, car and office.

It’s just one of those accidents of life, that the best ideas come out of necessity. It truly is the mother of invention.

Take our patented SOS Flag. It was created out of necessity. Forged and tested with the saving of real human life.

How many times have we heard about the burning building, the lost hiker or missing boat that has people who need help but can’t be found? Too many times.

In comes the SOS Flag.

Innovative, commonsensical, universal and extremely easy to use and understand. Created in bright orange to easily contrast with both the natural environment and buildings and cars with the SOS symbol clearly visible in white.

All our flags easily open up and come in three sizes and configurations. One size is for the car. You can easily open it up and put in on your driver or passenger side window. The other is three feet in diameter. It easily springs open and folds flat to fit in small spaces, such as back seats of cars, boats and back packs The third size is five feet. It’s great for larger boats and ships, for office buildings where you can place it on balconies and bring up to your window in case you’re trapped by fire, earthquake or a terrorist attack.

All of our flags, due to their color and well planned sizes and shapes, can easily be spotted and recognized by rescue workers on the ground and in the air. Get your flag today. Call 1-866-SOS-Flag (1-866-767-3524).
